Goose Creek South Carolina Real Estate

Building a City
In the early 1960s the first Goose Creek properties which were farmlands began to be subdivided to provide housing for the booming population to make better use of Goose Creek real estate. Goose Creek real estate was rated in a 1969 survey as the fastest-growing area in the US. Goose Creek properties offer a lot of home for the money and are still very close to Charleston, SC

The Goose Creek real estate area was not prepared for such radical growth. It resulted in problems with water, wastewater and sanitation systems hindering Goose Creek properties. Roads were overcrowded and police and fire service were insufficient for the amount of Goose Creek real estate it was to protect. On March 22, 1961 community leaders incorporated a section of the greater Goose Creek real estate area as the City of Goose Creek so they could address these Goose Creek properties problems. Hilton W. Bunch was the first mayor of the City. A city that was to become the population center of Berkeley County evolved from a modest beginning. The population numbered more than 6,000 within ten years after the incorporation. An average of ten families per week moved into Goose Creek real estate  from 1958 to 1968.

The young city faced formidable obstacles such as the lack of public services and a shortage of operating revenue for such a large number of Goose Creek properties. Melvin Mann emerged as a community leader during those early years, and went on to serve as mayor for four terms. He did a lot of things that make Goose Creek real estate what it is today.

The City of Goose Creek, SC began a process of reorganization in 1978 with the election of Mayor Michael J. Heitzler and his six city council running mates. The council set forth to provide efficient municipal service in a most cost effective manner to service the growing Goose Creek real estate boom.
